P1 Anti-Lift Front Control Arm Bushings

The MacPherson strut front suspension of P1 Volvos like the S40, V50, C30, and C70 is a good setup for everyday durability and around-town ride and handling, but when pushed hard, it leaves a little to be desired: the front control arm bushings are soft rubber to absorb noise and vibration, but they also allow a fair amount of suspension movement under acceleration (front-end lift) and braking (dive).

Soft rubber control arm bushings also contribute to wheel hop, the phenomenon of the a spinning wheel "skipping" at launches: the flex of the bushings makes the wheel repeatedly grip the road surface, twist slightly around the soft bushings, and then "hop" as the whole wheel upright assembly twists enough that the tire partially lifts off the road until it loses grip.

Suspension specialists Whiteline have come to the rescue with this Anti-Lift/Caster bushing kit. Replacing the aft bushings on the front control arms, this kit reduces lift under acceleration with both bushing material changes (sturdy synthetic elastomer) and with minor suspension geometry changes (reducing negative caster by 0.5 degrees) to keep lift under control and improve turn-in.

This kit comes with all new hardware needed to replace these bushings. Remove your old control arms, press off or cut off the old bushings, press on these new ones, and enjoy your newfound cornering confidence.
