Preparing a small emergency kit for your car is pretty easy if you just commit to doing it. In the long run it could save you hundreds of dollars in repairs, towing, waiting for "special Volvo parts" and get you back on the road quickly and safely. We've put together this list to help you get started.

The Basics:

  • Spare tire, jack and lug nut wrench
  • Jumper cables
  • Tow rope & a couple of bungee cords
  • Flares or reflective emergency triangles
  • 1 Gallon of water, 2 qts. oil, 1 qt. of transmission fluid
  • Rubber gloves and shop rags

And Then Some:

  • Vice grips, crescent, flat and Phillips screwdrivers, socket and end wrench set, hammer
  • Electrical tape, duct tape, small roll of electrical wire, mechanics wire, wire cutter/stripper
  • Spare brake, turn signal, park lamp, and headlamp bulb fuses
  • Spare set of fan belts, timing belt
  • Fuel filter, distributor cap, rotor and wires
