Product Description

All 700- and 900-series M46 4-speed overdrive and M47 5-speed manuals in the US use clutch fork 1220763, with a dimpled hole in one end for the clutch slave cylinder.

As you press the clutch pedal, the rod in the slave cylinder presses out in turn against the clutch fork, slowly wearing it away with every clutch pedal push. Eventually, the slave cylinder rod will wear the clutch fork enough to punch right through, popping the piston out of the slave cylinder and relieving your car of all of its clutch fluid in the process.

900-series cars in the US went all automatic after 1994, so we never got the sturdier M90 transmission...but in Europe you can find that transmission bolted to both red blocks and white blocks. It's got a higher torque rating and beefier components than the old M46s and M47s, including this direct-swap clutch fork made of thicker gauge steel and with a dimpled slave cylinder end without a hole.

Volvo suggests replacing the original M46/M47 clutch fork with each clutch swap, but this one should only have to be replaced once.

Additional Technical Information

Remember to add a bit of grease to the ball pivot and slave cylinder dimples before installation! New ball pivots and a new release bearing retaining clip are strongly recommended during clutch installation, see Recommended Products below.

About Genuine Volvo

Everything IPD supplies under the "Genuine Volvo" designation are the factory original Volvo parts. These are the same quality parts that you will get in the blue Volvo branded box from a dealership. All Volvo supplied Genuine Volvo parts are made to specifications by Volvo and under their strict quality control guidelines.

Volvo relies on high-quality OEM manufactures such as Lemforder, Behr, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Siemens, VDO, Corteco, and many more to maintain its dedication to quality and safety.

IPD is the exclusive North American distributor for Genuine Classic Volvo parts outside of the Volvo Dealership network. We are proud of our Volvo heritage dating back to 1963, a reputation that is unmatched by others in the industry.

Many may not know this but Volvo in Latin roughly translates to "to roll".  The company was founded back in 1927 by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson as a spin-off from ball-bearing manufacturer SKF.  While the Volvo logo looks like the biology symbol for male, it's really the Swedish symbol for Iron. With a nod to its heritage in alloys, Volvo chose a logo that depicted a ring bisecting at one o’clock. Today Volvo is known around the world as one of the most iconic brands known for safety, longevity, and its enthusiast following.
