Volvo XC70

2001-2017

The XC70 (also called the V70 XC in 2001 and 2002) is a rugged version of the V70 wagon, featuring AWD, extra plastic body cladding, and increased ground clearance. The star of Volvo's "Cross Country/XC" line of overland passenger cars and CUVs, it's been produced across two generations:

2001-2003 V70XC
2004-2007 Volvo XC70

  • Based on Volvo P2 platform
  • Sold in the USA from 2001 through 2007 model year
  • Four door cross-over style station wagon
  • USA models have 5 cylinder light pressure turbocharged engines
  • USA models were AWD (All Wheel Drive) and have 5-speed AW50-55 automatic transmissions

2008-2017 Volvo XC70

  • Based on Volvo P3 platform.
  • Sold in the USA from 2008 through 2017 model year
  • Four door cross-over style station wagon
  • USA models mostly have 6 cylinder naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines
    • Some 2015-2017 XC70s have 4 cylinder and 5 cylinder turbocharged engines
  • USA models all have automatic transmissions:
    • 6-speed TF-80 with five and six cylinders
    • 8-speed TG-81 with four cylinder engines
  • USA models were mostly AWD, though the oddball FWD 2.0, 2.5, and 3.2 can be found after 2010
