The Volvo 850 series was sold in the USA market from 1993 through 1997 model years.
The 850 was available as a four door sedan or a 5 door wagon.
The 850 was the first FWD (Front Wheel Drive) model Volvo offered in the USA market. AWD (All Wheel Drive) was available in some markets in 1997, but it was never an option in the USA market.
All USA 850 models have 5 cylinder engines available in normally aspirated (2.5L) or turbocharged (2.3L) variants.
Early 850 models were equipped with Bosch LH Jetronic fuel injection but it was replaced by Bosch Motronic 4 on all models by 1996.
850 models were the first Volvo to offer SIPS (Side Impact Protection System.)
