As the leader in providing quality engine rebuild parts and kits for Volvo we often get calls from Volvo owners trying to decide if an engine rebuild is a wise economical choice. Generally we try to determine the current condition of their engine or offer suggestions on how to make an accurate assessment of it's condition if they are not able to determine this on their own. Often the engine still has lots of life in it, only needing a valve job or a repair to a peripheral part such as an injector or ignition part.

If it is determined that the engine is in need of a rebuild, then we ask the customer about the condition of the car. If after investing $2000 to $3000 in a proper rebuild, is the rest of the car in good enough condition that it will "carry" the rebuild? You don't want to invest $2000 in a car that will only be worth $ 1000 when it's done because the body, interior or suspension is shot beyond repair. Sometimes there are sentimental reasons that motivate people to keep these kinds of cars on the road, so spend some time considering all this before making your decision. Also, consider that the $2000 to $3000 you'd invest in a rebuild and any money you might be able to get for your old Volvo will go a long ways toward purchasing the Volvo of your dreams in good condition.

Don't let us talk you out of an engine rebuild, especially if you've taken good care of your Volvo which in general is always a good investment that should maintain its value. Most of us here at ipd drive Volvos, some are in good stock condition, some are meticulously restored, some are works in progress and some are junkers! So we can relate and will do our best to help you make the right choice that suits your needs and if you do decide to pursue a rebuild you can count on us for top quality parts and advice.
