Before installing a steering Unit, always flush the power steering pump. If metal particles are found or if the system has been run dry, replace the pump. If the pump is not flushed or replaced, the replacement steering unit will be contaminated with metal particles that will cause internal seal failure and leakage.

Also, note that in many cases, the replacement steering unit will not look like the unit on your Volvo. This is not a problem, since the vehicle manufacturers make running changes in their production with most of the changes revolving around mounting configurations. With all ipd units, the necessary mounting hardware will be included.

On most import rack pinion applications, there is no pinion location on the unit. Therefore, when installing a replacement steering unit, you must center the Unit and steering wheel before installing the coupler.
