Remember that the most dangerous road conditions exist when the temperature is hovering around freezing. Ice with water on it is much slicker than a completely frozen surface or packed snow.

Occasionally test traction conditions by gently applying the brakes to "feel" for traction. This is especially helpful when you're approaching a congested traffic area or an intersection and you are unsure if temperature changes may have drastically changed traction conditions. Be aware of other cars around you when doing this so you don't get rear-ended or slide into another car.

Visibility is crucial in winter driving conditions so always properly defrost the glass and scrape off any ice or snow on the glass before venturing out. Be sure to remove any ice or snow accumulated on the wiper blades and that the blades are in good condition for best performance.
