What is an electronically foldable mirror?

2011-06-21 - Kevin Rutledge

Volvo calls them "electronically foldable" mirrors, but they are basically mirrors that can electronically collapse, pivot or "fold" up against the door of the car when parked to reduce the likelihood of damage by other motorists or shopping carts.

In the USA market, electronically foldable mirrors were pretty rare prior to 2005 but there may be some instances of earlier models having them.

Electronically foldable mirrors usually (but not always) use different glass than non-electronically foldable styles.  Since all models didn't get folding mirrors, the style needs to be verified prior to purchasing mirror glass for these models.
