Volvo's listings for this fuel line coupler and retainer are very unclear. It's basically a part that you can't find if you try to look it up for earlier (pre-2005) models. the reason for this is that Volvo replaced it with an updated style but didn't make any notes about the change in the parts catalog. The parts don't look anything like the parts that are being replaced so they are a little bit hard to find in the part diagrams.
This coupler attaches to the fuel rail where the high pressure fuel line from the tank connects to the rail. It is very common on pre-2005 models for this coupler to leak fuel because the early design was not effective. All it takes is disturbing it once and it will leak.
We're not even completely sure what models have this type of coupler. Volvo specifies that it is only on 2005 and newer models yet we have seen it on many earlier cars. we recommend comparing the pictures with what is on your car to be sure.
