These Volvos have a history of front brake problems. Part of the weakness of these systems relates to the slider style calipers used on these cars. The rubber boots on these sliders will sometimes tear or degrade from heat and allow lubricated parts to be exposed to the elements. Once the grease washes out it’s only a matter of time before the calipers begin to malfunction. Binding hardware, dragging brake pads and rotor warping are only some of the potential outcomes. These kits do not include parts for caliper pistons.
Potential Product Fitment Issues
There is some variation on what Volvo installed on 700 & 900 series cars from the factory. In order to ensure you get the correct pads for your car please consult the front brake caliper photos above to eliminate any confusion. Externally, the calipers using #D508 and #D1198 pads look similar. To discern the difference, you must visually inspect the spring style on the pads. Once you remove the wheel, there is a small opening in the caliper where you can see the springs.
