Product Description
We love the tight, notchy Spaceball shifter that comes in the manual-equipped S60R and V70R, but two decades on from when these cars were first introduced, their unique right front axle has been discontinued by Volvo, and the relatively small VIO (number of vehicles in operation) means no one in the aftermarket has come up with a replacement...
...until now. We used our M66 swap project on our V70R as an opportunity to develop a from-scratch right side axle for these cars to fill the gap left by Volvo.
Partnering with one of our specialist axle manufacturers and using an OEM axle as a template to ensure precise dimensions, we've made a few tweaks to the OEM design appropriate for the high-power nature of these cars:
- Stronger tripod-style inner joint versus OEM-style Rzeppa ball-and-cage joint, appropriate for sporty, stiffly-sprung cars like R models with minimal ride height range of motion
- Additional roller bearings under the tripod rollers for enhanced long-term wear characteristics and low friction
- TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) outer boot, to resist UV, heat/moisture, and cracking over time versus rubber
- Neoprene inner boot, to allow for stretch with plunge articulation
- Weld-free inner axle, with the tripod cup and stub axle machined from one piece to avoid weak points
- Heavy duty sealed carrier bearing

Additional Technical Information
M66s call for exactly two liters of 75W-80 GL-4 (yellow metal safe) gear oil; since the fluid level in the transmission sits higher than the axles, you will lose some gear oil if you don't drain it out first. If replacing your axle, fresh gear oil is therefore a great "while you're in there" task, see Recommended Products below.
The tripod design of the inner joint on this axle is designed for stock ride height or slightly lowered (lowering springs) cars. If your car is significantly lower than stock ride height (air suspension, coilovers), you may experience axle binding (vibration) past 1.5" of drop.
