There were multiple design iterations for the heater blower motor of the 700/900 series cars. These changes were designed to address problems with water accumulation in the blower motor and Volvo's increasing desire to present this model as luxurious. Due to the age of the vehicles on the road today it is impossible to know which version of the blower motor is currently installed.
Early original cars had a simple motor with a single positive wire terminal and case ground. This was mounted to the heater box using five small screws and there was an air vent hose to the bottom of the motor which caused some very early failures. This motor is available under IPD 102168.
Later cars used an unvented two wire rubber isolated three post design which required some modification to install. These modifications were intended to address the failure points. The kit listed on this page is all that is required to "update" an early original car to later specification.
Be aware that if your motor is failing due to water/rust problems then you need to fix the problem in your intake cowl that is allowing water to accumulate in your heater box.
Fits models WITHOUT automatic climate control. If your car has automatic climate control (specific temp settings in degrees) this motor will not work in your car.
3 mounting screw style
This kit will also fit 1983-1987 models with some wiring modifications.
Aftermarket parts are a reasonably priced and good alternative to OE products. We often supply aftermarket products in place of OE parts that are no longer available as well.
Some items will be better than stock or considered an upgrade from the OE design in the aftermarket brand.
Other items will work as a less expensive alternative to stock.
We will not sell a product that we do not believe in, so rest assured you are fine with the aftermarket brand in most applications!
