Valve Compressor Tool

With the right tools, adjusting the valves on most 1976 and newer 4 cylinder Volvos is a fairly easy task. We rent the valve shim kits needed and we've also got a time-saving shim release tool to make the job even simpler.

Simply rotate the engine until you get two of the valves where they are at the base circle of the camshaft (not on the pointed part of the lobe). Take your measurements with a feeler gauge then slide the hook tool under the cam, in between the valve buckets. Then rotate it downwards to release the cam pressure on the buckets. From there the shims can easily be removed and replaced!
