Product Description
On AWD Volvos, the output for the all wheel drive system is packaged very cleverly: the power take-off for the AWD angle gear to the rear wheels comes from the transmission via a hollow outer shaft, and the passenger front axle passes through this to connect to the differential in the transmission as a concentric inner shaft.
There are therefore three seals at the transmission for modern AWD Volvos:
- An outer seal, which presses in to the transmission case and seals the angle gear collar/coupler which connects the hollow outer shafts
- An o-ring, which goes on to the outer shaft splines prior to pressing on the angle gear
- An inner seal, which presses in to the end of the hollow outer shaft to seal it from the concentric inner axle shaft
This seal is #1, the angle gear collar outer seal.
