This "helper" shock is used on cars with power-operated liftgates, but only on cars after a certain chassis number; all cars before the chassis break (manual or power) use 2x of 31217640.
- V70, from chassis number 190963 and up with variant codes L703 (hydraulic power liftgate) or L705 (electric power liftgate): 1 shock used on the left, right side uses 31217640
- XC70, from chassis number 104554 and up with variant codes L703 (hydraulic power liftgate) or L705 (electric power liftgate): 1 shock used on the left, right side uses 31217640
