It is very common on these models for the center armrest cover to simply "lift off" instead of hinging back properly. The problem lies in the plastic center supports in the hinged area of this cover piece. The self tapping screws set into plastic "pillars" built into this piece that age and crack/break over time. When this happens the top is no longer secure and supported. The only fix is replacement. Once installed, your current upper leather cover transfers over from your old cracked piece to this new one.
