2005 Volvo S60 Type R AWD. The S60 is aimed to mainly compete with the BMW 3-Series (E46) and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (W203) 2.5 liter 5 cylinder alloy engine w/DOHC variable timing 300 HP. Reinforced pistons. The ride can be smooth, and the advertised 300 horsepower is potent. It comes from a Newtonian-physics- flaunting inline five- cylinder engine with two modes: on and off. When it's on, the 2.5 liters' worth of cylinders are pumped to within an inch of bursting by a BorgWarner turbo making peak boost of 14.5 psi. These five lungs don't sing so much as moan at full throttle. There are the various Rs planted around the car - for example, on the spokes of the unique five- spoked R type rims, through which the exclusive R imprinted four-piston Brembo disc brakes flash. Or you might notice the quarter-inch lowering of the S60R compared to a regular S60. Or the unique front fascia's bumper, which allows more air to the twin-intercooled turbocharger Volvo didn't stop with the engine. The company spent time and treasure developing an electronic suspension system that couples to an all-wheel-drive layout - in Volvo speak, Four-C: Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept. A computer-controlled hydraulic-electronic dampening system allows the driver to select the level of suspension compliance. Three settings - Comfort, Sport, and Advanced - are accessible through a dash- mounted switch. Comfort works well for highway cruising, Sport for most driving situations (allowing for minimum body roll), and Advanced for fast, smooth, racetrack-like twists. Newer tires, Bi-Xenon lights R type, moon roof, Dolby surround, 18 inch Volvo Pegasus rims, heated front seats, rain sensor, water repellent glass, laminated side windows, blue metallic leather, blue gauges with aluminum highlight, black sapphire metallic exterior, stainless steel high flow exhaust. $4300 O.B.O. Semi-active suspension with Four-C (a short name for "Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept") allows the user to select from three modes: Comfort, Sport, and Advanced. "Comfort" attempts to soften the car over bumps, while "Advanced" firms the suspension considerably and gives more aggressive throttle response - a setting Volvo implies is for use on the race track. This is accomplished through a drive by wirethrottle, allowing the same pedal travel to result in different performance when the appropriate mode is selected, electronically controlled shock absorbers that can adjust themselves 500 times a second, and a complex series of sensors throughout the body of the vehicle. Volvo collaborated with high-tech system developer Ohlins Racing AB and shock absorber manufacturer Monroe for the self-adjusting shock absorbers.
