2011 S60 T6 AWD

Wednesday, August 6, 2014 - ipd staff

We’re very excited to announce ipd’s new project car. This 2011 S60 T6 AWD isn’t brand new, but that’s ok! We like our project cars to be a few years old with some miles on them.  That gives us an opportunity to see how well engine, interior, and suspension components are holding up. ipd utilizes project vehicles not only for promotion, but for R&D and new product ideas.

We picked this S60 up from DLR Nordic located in Portland Oregon. They are an independent Volvo car dealer and have sourced many project cars for us in the past. Once they saw this car, they knew it would be a perfect fit for us. In 2011 this S60 had a complete makeover done by Galpin Auto Sports. The Galpin Automotive Group owns many dealerships and specialty performance shops spread all over Van Nuys California. This particular car was built specifically to be put on display at the Las Vegas SEMA show.  GAS did a fantastic job repainting the car, outfitting it with 3 piece custom wheels, and finalizing it with custom interior that includes a blue suede headliner.

Now that all the exterior and interior pieces have been completely redone, we’re looking forward to testing suspension and performance items on this car. ipd is starting to see a demand for these types of products on the P3 S60 chassis. We plan on gaining some exposure by outfitting the S60 with a new turbocharger, downpipe, exhaust system, and some new carbon fiber accents.

Keep your eyes peeled in this blog to see updates and product information related to this vehicle. We hope you’ll tune in as this project progresses.

Thanks for checking out our new ride!

Wow, that paint job is great. Such a subtle pale blue. I look forward to seeing how Rowdy ipd can make it.

I have a S60 T6 R-Design with and IPD rear swaybar. Great car except for brakes. Looking forward to upgrade to stronger front brakes with much firmer feel. 19" wheels with performance tires would also be great!

I like the R-Design nose over the standard '11 front fascia (the R-Design started in 2012), but this car needs a rear spoiler. I agree with a previous commenter - the paint could be more bold. Even though aesthetics is nice, iPd has been virtually snail slow in offering suspension and power upgrades, which are in fact, available elsewhere. Yeah, I know iPd likes to wait, but the Volvo brand has been treading water for the last few years, so this "flagship" model for Volvo should have been researched and upgrade developed by iPd right out of the gate in late 2010.

Plus, I have never been a fan of black wheels - they just look like they are dirty and there's no contrast with the tires.

I remember looking at this one when it was for sale at Galpen Volvo. It was a great car, but I wanted an XC70

Thanks everyone for your contributions to the new ipd Project S60 blog, really some great input! Ipd has offered performance suspension products such as as springs and anti-sway bars since the cars were first offered. Other performance upgrades typically need to wait until the cars are out of the warranty period as many owners are hesitant to modify their Volvos while still under warranty. We have some great things in store performance-wise for the P3 chassis Volvo cars and that's exactly why we snapped up this opportunity to own this fantastic example. Please keep an eye on this blog and our website for more new products for P3 Volvos! Thanks for your great input and enthusiasm! -Brandon Weaver, ipd Customer Service Manager

Nice. What type of tire do you have on this car?

@Robert Yates- Those are BF Goodrich GForce T/A 265/30-ZR20's. -Brandon Weaver, ipd Customer Service Manager

Ooh, just love that color. :)

It's nice to see the PC platform being shown some love. Perhaps you guys will also show us 2008+ XC70 guys a bit of it while you are at it. I already have the Polestar upgrade and soon will have your rear anti-roll bar, but as always it would be nice to have some more options.

I agree with Stamo .. if you want to fix something on this car make it the brakes. It's really not that the brakes are bad BUT the long pedal travel and soft feel are not in line with the rest of the car. What the car needs is a master cylinder with smaller pistons. It might even help the handling too, since the P3 uses a little brake action on the inside wheels to aid in turning. More of that could be quite nice. So start combing through your factory Volvo parts and see if another application's master cylinder can be used to great effect. And if you need a tester just let me know. My S60 is ready and waiting for such a fix.

I can't imagine that upgrading shocks voids the warranty. Plus, unless you're tearing down the engine or reflashing the ECM, I can't imagine that performance upgrades like exhaust or intake voids the warranty either.

Did you guys put any spacers in order to fit the 265/30/R20 or will make clearance? Loving the blue seats too btw

Wow I notice that you guys got the R-design front bumper on a regular T6. Pretty cool, I appreciate the effort, not many people would notice that.
