Sometimes I wonder why, of all the cars in the world, I picked Volvo.  I don't know that I'll ever know the answer to that question, but what I do know is that these old boxy Swedes really have a hold on me!  I've been working here at iPd for the last 2 years and I was a customer long before that.  One would think that being surrounded by Volvo stuff 40+ hours a week would quench my thirst for this stuff, but in reality, it's just made me thirstier.

I learned to drive at 16 in a 240 and have never looked back... Over the years since then I've owned several 240s, a 140, 2 850s and a 740.  Currently my Volvo fleet is standing at just 2 Volvos.  My 1980 240 wagon and a 1986 740 turbo wagon.  I bought the 740 bought from the original owner who bought the car new at Jim Fischer Volvo here in Portland and remains all original, just like it came from the showroom floor.  My 1980 240 on the other hand....

The 240 has become an all consuming project that will likely never end.  The suspension has the full iPd compliment.  To set it apart, I also put on some 17x7.5 Volvo/BBS "Propus" wheels.

Under the hood I converted the previously naturally aspirated engine to a high compression turbo motor using almost all Volvo OEM parts sourced from other Volvo models.  Running a high compression ratio motor doesn't require that much boost to be quick, and I'm also enjoying not having the car act like a slug off the line like the lower compression, production model turbo cars.  So far the totally stock K-Jetronic mechanical fuel injection is handling all that extra air just fine! :)  She moves pretty good now, but there are much bigger plans for her coming very soon...

Her current list of modifications/upgrades are as follows:

I do have a life beyond Volvos believe it or not!  When I'm not working on my cars, or daydreaming about the next project my wife and I enjoy spending time in the beautiful outdoors of the Northwest with our 2 dogs.  Whether it's driving down the coast, snowboarding down Mt. Hood or hiking in the Columbia River Gorge I'm constantly reminded of how much I love living here!

Another passion in my life is travelling.  I love to see new things, go new places and meet new people.  I feel very fortunate to have been able to visit as many places as I have in my life.  Among my favorites so far have been backpacking for a month through Europe, visiting the Volvo factory and Volvo musuem in Gothenburg, Sweden, a wonderful trip to Chile/Argentina and most recently I spent 2 weeks driving a small RV across both islands of New Zealand with my wife.  It truly is a magical place that words cannot describe.  I even met an American who owns a restaurant near Mt. Cook that has an 1800!

If you have questions on any of the projects I've got going, or just want to jibber-jabber about Volvos, you can reach me here by phone at 800-444-6473 or by email at cameron@ipdusa.com
