IPD Solid Dowel installed |
On Volvo B21, B23, B230 & B234 “Redblock” engines Volvo uses a small roll pin to index and locate the timing belt gears on both the camshafts and auxiliary shaft. The factory pin is weak and easily bent during gear removal for standard maintenance like oil seal replacement. When the factory pin bends or shifts it can cause the gears to be indexed slightly off causing the possibility of disrupting normal ignition timing and cam timing. Worse yet, if the pin shears the possibility exists that the gear could spin on the shaft causing much bigger issues than just a couple degree timing change.
IPD’s stainless steel solid dowel pins replace the flimsy stock rolled metal pins to more solidly engage and more securely lock the gears in place where they should be. A seemingly small upgrade that can save you from a big headache!
Install is easy -- simply pull out the stock roll pin with needle nose pliers (or similar tool) and then push the new IPD HD pin in.
