Page 5: Anti-Sway Bars, Springs

If you really enjoy driving your Volvo, but occasionally find yourself wishing it handled a little better, you should seriously consider having an ipd safety anti sway bar system installed. NOTE: Upgrading the anti-sway bars on these models is a skill level 3 procedure. We generally recommend professional installation as it is necessary to lower the engine sub-frame and a vehicle lift makes the job easier than doing it on jack stands. Although the experienced do it yourselfer can accomplish the install, you should consult the installation instructions before attempting this job to be certain it is within your mechanical abilities.

Sport springs, or lowering springs as they are often called improve the handling by lowering the center of gravity and reducing body movement with an increased spring rate (stiffer). Sport springs also increase firmness more than any other component, so keep these attributes in mind when considering this upgrade.

The other use of sport springs is to attain a low aggressive look that sets your car apart from the masses with a sporty low profile. ipd sport springs will lower your Volvo approximately 1.65” to 1.75” and the spring rate is increased approximately 20%.

We recently developed our own ipd Sport springs based on input we received from polls on popular Volvo enthusiast forums. The overwhelming response was ”We want them lower than what’s currently available from other spring manufacturers and we want a noticeable front biased rake.”  So that’s what we developed and the response from the Volvo enthusiast community has been great! We went as low as possible w/o compromising the stock suspension geometry.  Look for about a 1-3/4” drop in the front and just a bit less in the rear for a nice aggressive stance that still rides decent.
