Tune Up Kits by Bosch
If your engine is sound, you’ll probably find tune-ups due every year or so. This assumes that the fuel system is in peak operating condition (rare, but we’ve seen a few). We tune our B20s each Autumn and again in the Spring to keep the ignition system happy. Our kits include Bosch cap, rotor, points and condenser, and either NGK or Bosch plugs (your choice).
As most vintage Volvos are not wearing their original distributor, the following information is the best way for us to get you the correct tune-up parts the first time:
The Bosch number listed is only the last three digits of the full ten digit number. For those distributors without the ten digit number, there is an alternate number listed.
The listings shown here are the result of a few years of research. If you don’t see your distributor number listed here, please give us a call. We will try to determine, by description, which components you need and you can help us make this list more complete. Bosch tune-up kits include: spark plugs, rotor, cap, condenser, and points on models where needed.

Ignitor Electronic Ignition by Perlux for all 4 cylinder models, 1962-74
Economically and easily update your vintage Volvo to an electronic breakerless ignition system (no more points or condenser to fuss with). The small, self-contained unit fits inside the distributor with a simple two-wire connection to the coil. The ignitor system operates magnetically (no moving parts to wear out) and if the point lobes are worn on your distributor you can salvage it by installing this system.

Crane Ignition
With the Crane breakerless ignition system, you’ll get top performance and mileage without the gradual decline caused by a worn distributor. You never have to reset your points again!
On the Crane system, triggering is done by an infrared LED and chopper wheel. This completely eliminates the timing and dwell variation found in breaker point distributors and is less susceptible to shaft wobble common in older, worn distributors.
The Crane system has its own voltage regulator, is accurate to 1/100 of one degree and each electronic component is used at only 40% of its capacity for an extra margin of reliability. For all 12 volt, 4 cylinder models prior to 1975.

| To help us identify the proper tune-up parts for your specific car, please have your Bosch distributor part number handy. On early (B18) distributors, this number will be found on an oval tag riveted to the distributor body. On later (B20) distributors, the number is simply stamped on the body -- see photos.
This is not a daunting task, as we need to know only the last three digits, and whether yours is an aluminum or cast iron distributor. If you’ve updated to an electronic ignition, please let us know and we can provide a kit without points and condenser.
