Vintage Fuel System Yes, we know you’ve been dreading it. Who really wants to spend a chunk of change so that you can end up smelling like gas for an entire weekend? But there is some consolation here. Once this job is done your Swedish relic should be ready for another 40 years or so of holding it’s fuel off of the garage floor and rust-free filters, pumps and float bowls. So maybe it doesn’t look better at the cruise-in but it does offer a certain peace of mind. It also offers the perfect opportunity to clean, patch, paint and seal that trunk. Ipd has all you need..well, most of it anyway.
The 1800 tank comes with the connectors, adaptors caps and clamps to fit injected or carb models either top or side fill. The 122 tank may need a minor notch cut in the trunk floor to be installed but is a complete, one piece unit. Both tanks come with an abundance of butyl putty, so you can seal some other stuff while you’re at it. |
Fuel Tanks for Your Vintage Volvo! 122 sedan and 1800’s
For the last several years, a complete restoration was impossible. Everything functions perfect, there’s a gorgeous shine on the chrome, the vinyl and leather have been re-stitched, and she purrs like a kitten there’s just that sludge in the bottom of the gas tank, or the smell of fuel in the car due to rust or damage to the tank. Sending a tank in to be reconditioned can leave you with no tank at all if rust has made the sheetmetal too thin. Well, now they’re here! Brand new gas tanks licensed by Volvo and pressed from the original tools. Our kit includes the original style butyl putty that goes between tank rim and trunk floor to make installation correct.

Fuel Senders
Not sure how much fuel is in the tank? If your sending unit is original, that means it’s “reaching it’s golden years.” The common “starting to fail” symptom is an inaccurate gauge that momentarily pegs at full. It might work like this for years - and it might not last another week. Put an end to uncertainty and prevent unwanted rest sops by the side of the road due to an empty tank.

Butyl Putty Tape
We now have the correct style, gray butyl putty for restoration of your vintage Volvo. This can be found in various places on your car.
For example, the Volvo 122 uses a blob of this putty behind each side trim clip (this is especially important in keeping the rain out of the trunk). Other spots include a layer on the rail between body and front fender, between gas tank rim and body, and a bead below the wing window under the upper door panel. One roll is 20 feet long.
