Performance Intercooler

ipd’s new performance intercooler has a 30% larger core, all aluminum construction and is a direct bolt in -- compatible with both factory or aftermarket RIP kit intercooler piping. Featuring Hi flow & hi efficiency bar and plate core construction, the intercooler makes an excellent addition to Stage III cars and cars running larger turbos. The stock intercooler does a great job with the stock turbo, but as soon as you upgrade the turbo, you can easily exceed the heat shedding capabilities of the stock unit under high load runs, which can lead to a loss of up to 12 HP. Does not require the removal of the air conditioner condensor like some kits.

We’ve used Aquamist systems on several of our high output turbo projects with excellent results. Typically an Aquamist system will allow your engine management to maintain full ignition advance at full load. This system is especially effective on the 2004 to 2007 R models as the stock intercooler system is inadequate when ambient exceeds 80 deg F. It is also an add on to our new stage III kit for 1994-2000 turbo models.

The main function of these systems is to suppress detonation caused by high temperature and pressure developed within the combustion chamber when the effective compression ratio has been taken beyond the auto-ignition point by a turbo (high boost). Water, with its high thermal transfer efficiency, is extremely effective for controlling not only the onset of detonation but also the production of oxides of nitrogen in modern leanburn engines like Volvos. for 1994 to 1998 850 Turbos and C, S & V70 series

ipd’s new reverse intercooler piping kit (R.I.P. kit) reverses the routing of the induction tubing in turbo charged Volvo’s from 1995-1998. ipd’s kit routes the hot turbo air to the top of the intercooler and routes the cool air out the bottom. This change in routing reduces the heat that is inducted into the intercooler outlet air. Since heat rises, routing the air out the bottom of the intercooler reduces outlet temperature an average 12 degrees Centigrade when measured at the throttle body inlet. The ipd R.I.P. kit design is also 14 inches shorter than factory induction routing which results in increased throttle response and less boost lag. The RIP kit is made of bright silver, powder coated stainless steel tubing to provide a long lasting show quality appearance. The upper and lower pipes are mandrel bent single piece construction for easy installation. Several joints are eliminated compared to the competitions multi pipe designs. This is important as each joint disrupts air flow and is a potential for leaks. We also roll a lip onto the end of each pipe that helps prevent the silicone connections from blowing apart under high boost conditions.
