IPD’s 26th Annual Open House Garage Sale Event Sets Record Attendance!

by Scott Hart, Volvo Division Leader

Over the past 26 years that we have put on this event we have had about 3 years with “perfect” weather. This was one of those years and probably had a lot to do with the great turn out we had. Over 70 show quality Volvos squeezed into our parking lot and another 100 or more lined the streets and parking lots for several blocks around our shop. The models were pretty evenly spread with great stock and modified examples ranging from 1960’s 544 models all the way up to the latest R models. Each year several new custom Volvo car creations come out of the wood work of the Northwest (“mossy jungles of the Northwest” would probably be more appropriate!) and this year was no exception.

Norbert Kist made some stealthy updates to his beautiful Black 850R, including a huge rear wing that came from one of the original Volvo BTCC race cars! Danny Melville showed up with “Evil Shenanigans” his 1998 S70 with a whole slew of new mods including the first ever Stage IV Vinyl Upgrade! We were also pleased to see a handful of newly completed vintage Volvo restorations including ipd’s original 1971 142E that we haven’t seen in 5 or 6 years!

Swap meet vendor attendance was down from 28 last year to 21 this year, thanks to e-bay and Craigslist I’m sure! The vendors we spoke with reported that there were a lot of tire kickers, but sales of used parts were down considerably compared to past events.

Special activities during this year's event included 2 tech seminars put on by ipd’s R&D manager Robert Arnold and ipd customer Norbert Kist. They covered the complete range of do it yourself troubleshooting and diagnostics of OBD II equipped Volvos.

Each year our staff selects a local charitable organization to raise funds for during our open house event. This year we selected Family Dogs New Life Shelter. Proceeds from our auction and raffle event are combined and then ipd kicks in another 50%. 100% of it goes to the selected charity. This year we raised over $4,300 during our charity fundraiser. Special thanks to the David Douglas High School Cheer Squad for their hard work in selling raffle tickets all day. Raffle and auction items are graciously donated by our suppliers. We’d like to take this time to thank the following ipd vendors who make this event possible. Voxx Wheels, WorldPac, Wheelskins, PIAA, APA Industries, Eibach, H&R Springs, Skandix, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, R-Sport International, MTE SWEDEN, Mac Neil WeatherTec mats, Pertronix Ignition Sytems, Motive Brake Bleeders. A big thanks to all of these companies for their continued support of our event and generous giving during these difficult economic times. We sincerely appreciate it!
