Volvo V70/XC70 2001-2007 » R Model Intake Kit

Developed exclusively for the 2004-2007 R models, this intake kit provides an additional RAM air source for the factory air box. By routing air from the fog light grill this intake captures air pressure from normal driving and puts that pressure to work in the air box providing shorter turbo spool time and increased acceleration. Initially developed by the online community we have worked together to provide this kit to all R owners who are looking for a stealthy kit that provides real gains in intake air flow. This kit fits drivers side fog light grill only, passenger side kit coming soon!

*Note* 2004-2005 models do not come with a ventilated fog light grille. Ipd part# 30678049 is recommended

I installed the kit last night into my '04 V70R - took about 2.5 hours total going slow and following the excellent instruction sheet.
3 observations:
(1) A Torx-25 short socket or 90 deg driver for a T-25 bit is needed to gain access to the lower MAF torx screw - I didn't have one and played contorsionist trying to hold a T-25 bit in a adjustable wrench to remove and re-install. I made it work, but having a socket or a 90 deg bit driver would have saved 1/2 hour
(2) The supplied hose was plenty long - I ended up trimming a foot off the hose to give more straight-line path for the ram air and still have enough "slack" for attaching the hose to the airbox
(3) I have the undercar plastic skid plate that had to be hole-sawed to provide a passthrough for the hose into the engine bay (shown in the instruction sheet). While the instruction sheet called for a 2" hole, that would not prove enough clearance for the necking down portion of the scoop and hose clamp to fit behind the fog light grill. I ended up hogging out more of a 2.5" x 3.5" oval area to give enough space for the scoop to fit with the clamp attached. It still isn't sitting perfectly and may have contributed to the fog light grill popping off on the maiden drive.

I can't really comment yet on observed performance gains. The spool up was okay on a quick burst from 50 to something higher... Definitely more air getting into the engine now!

Cheers,
Pk

I just installed this 3 days ago.
I'm impressed!
Pound for pound the best performance enhancement for your money ... and I can feel the car could still benefit from a third (the passenger side) intake. I'll be waiting.
Congratulations to IPD and the online community for making this product possible!
