Volvo V70/XC70 2001-2007 » Oil Filters by Mahle

Most 1999 and newer models with 5, 6 and 8 cylinder engines use the black plastic spin-on canister that holds the oil filter. Please check your Volvo to be sure.

Mahle is the Volvo OEM supplier for cartridge style oil filters. This is the same filter Volvo sells except that ours come in a Mahle box. The picture at right is for comparison only.

This filter is a tight fit in the black housing. This is by design to seal the filter so oil doesn't leak around it during operation. Just press until it seats.

These filters come with a black O-ring style seal for sealing the canister.

Don't hesitate to save money - just go with the HD Wrench! I went with this one
first and it tore out immediately.

If you lift the car high (on a hydraulic lift) you could probably use this wrench
without putting too much torque on it to break it. But just spring for the heavy duty
wrench instead - you'll thank me later.

This wrench is good for the money. There is a slight looseness in the socket joint, but if you do not over torque the cover it really is not a problem. My Volvo dealer had over-torqued the cover to the point this cap wrench slid half way around the cap rise before it broke loose. I tighten the cap to 25Nm and have not had a serious problem since with this wrench or the cap. If you expect high quality, then buy the pro version of the tool. If you are changing your oil, every 3000, then this is the one to buy.

This tool is perfect for a DIY to work on their daily driver vehicle -- thus my posting a comment in contrast to the previous negative comments. I have used this wrench for the last 5 oil changes without issue. I am also cognizant of the required torque value to prevent damage to the plastic carrier...

I wanted to put a 0 in the rating box,but it would not take it. Don't waste your money
on this one. It will cost you more for the shipping to send it back than you payed for the
wrench. I can not beleave that any Volvo Specialist would sell this wrench. Buy the heavy duty wrench Part# T1275OS. It works great. -Kevin F.L.

ipd customer service response: It would help if you explained what you don't like about the product. We sell a lot of these wrenches. They work very well for the home mechanic. They will wear out if used daily. We sell the heavy duty version for professional technicians. Also, people tend to over tighten the black plastic oil filter canister so they because very difficult to remove.

get what you pay for. this socket didnt grip the housing tight enough to break it loose. it may be on too tight, however i was unable to finish the job due to this tool.

ipd customer service response: These oil filter canister housings are only supposed to be tightened to 25 Nm. (in other words, not real tight.) They are plastic and are easily damaged by over tightening. We are seeing Quick Lube shops consistently overtighten them. IN many cases, this actually strips the plastic threads on the housing.
