Volvo S80 1999-2006 » Upper Engine Stabilizer Mount

The original rubber engine stabilizer mount has proven to be a weak link that that can fail prematurely and allow the engine to rock and move during acceleration and braking, significantly affecting the handling and performance of the car. This mount is located near the top of the engine on the backside just to the right of center, connecting the engine to the firewall. The original mount requires a special Volvo press tool for removal and installation.

Our improved polyurethane material is stronger (we warranty it for life) and the 2 piece design allows for easy installation without special tools. The original mount is covered under the basic Volvo warranty, however we have heard from customers that have had the original rubber mount replaced several times. To inspect your mount, look for signs of the rubber separating where it is attached to the outer housing. The original rubber bushing can be removed and our HD replacement can be installed in about 30 minutes with common hand tools and included instructions.

Most 2005 models and all 2006-2007 models with 5 cylinder engines use a square style upper engine mount. If you have the sqaure style mount and would like to upgrade to the ipd heavy duty mount you need ipd part #2B1885. This kit includes our HD poly mount with round mounting bracket assembly. Please note that some of the 2001-2004 models will also have the square mount if the mount has recently been replaced under warranty or a new mount was purchased from you Volvo dealer. Recently, the round style was superseded to the square style by Volvo

Please note! These polyurethane bushings are firmer than the stock rubber parts they replace and can transmit additional vibration in some cases. Especially if the motor mounts and or transmission mounts are worn. When you replace the worn out rubber mount, now much of the load is supported by the new stiffer bushing and this can often lead to unwanted vibration, especially at idle on models equipped with automatic transmissions. It’s important to make sure that your other mounts are in good condition to avoid unwanted vibration.

*Many cars have been retrofitted with the later square style bushing by Volvo under warranty. Please inspect your car before purchasing to ensure correct fit.

Easy upgrade! Much better construction than the stock bushing. Thanks IPD.

Installed the 2B1880 bushing in my V70 R this weekend. The rubber bushing was totally shot. Very noticable difference, smoothed out the acceleration. Very slight vibration at idle, as others have noted, but otherwise a great product. Only hitch on installation was my need to purchase an 18MM socket. Otherwise an easy 30 minute job.

After reading a few of the "vibration" complaints and the warning from iPd, I went ahead and decided to order the 2B1880 mount for my C70 vert (manual) because I didn't want to install the junkie rubber OE ones from Volvo. Installation was easy and WOW, what a difference! I can feel the extra power from the lack of engine movement... and I have yet to experience any additional vibration.

I finally received my polyurethane bushing today. THANK YOU IPD!!!! After my mechanic installed the new polyurethane bushing I could feel a significant change in the driving of my 2000 XC SE within the 15 minute commute to work. Awesome part, and awesome customer service. Thank you IPD, thank you very much.

ipd customer service response: We're sorry about the delay but glad you like the product!

This is the second application of the poly bushing I've used. Installed it previously on my 95 850 and now on my 05 S60. In both cases, the results were very noticeable when driving. The car just has a tighter, more confident feel about it that didn't exist before. The vibration is noticeable at idle, however. Shifting to neutral seems to help. Other than that, both applications have been a joy to have.

Update from Bill from Sandy.
In order to cure the severve vibration I mentioned in my earlier review I ended having to go back to all Volvo OE parts: upper engine mount and lower torque rod. I have given up slightly better handling and response but the vibration was too much to live with.

The upper engine stabilizer mount in 2001 S60 blew out at about 40,000 miles. I replaced it with the IPD part and was very happy with results; easy to install. Since then I installed the QBM strut bar conversion and the HD poly transmission mount (the busing on the OE was amost gone at 70,000 miles). I noticed a slight improvement in throttle response and a little less body flex when cornering. The negative is that I have developed a very severe vibration at idle (in gear, neutral is okay) and when accelerating between 1,300 and 1,800 rpm. Two separate volvo mechanics tell me it is the combination of the IPD exhaust and changing to a harder bushings. I am in the process of backtracking and changing to OE parts to try and reduce the vibration.

Additional comment: The vibration is noticebly less now, most likely due to much warmer weather. When I installed the part it was about -10 celsius. The last few days the temp has been around +6 to +10 celsius and the vibration at idle is not so noticeable.
Need to stress that it is only at idle theres is any sign of vibration. It is really smooth when driving!

If you are not looking to improve your car's performance, just buy a stock mount.
Polyurethane mounts tighten your engine supports but they will deliver every single ounce of power to the wheels, therefore more power!
They come with a little vibration if you force the engine, because they will have more hardness and endurance for a higher performance.

The part is easy to install. Installed this bushing together with the Upper Engine Stabilizer Poly Bushing Kit. Took about 30 min overall.
Solved the problem with engine vibration during driving and shifting, but vibration at idle is annoying (It has gotten a little better after driving a few hundred km's though).
