Volvo S70/V70 1998-2000 » Radiators & Expansion Tanks
In the heat of the summer, imagine what your cars cooling system must endure to prevent engine meltdown. In the toughest of times, it is imperative that all the protective features of the cooling system are operating at peak performance. As your car ages and the miles click by, your cooling system will require some preventive maintenance. Any Volvo engine allowed to overheat is may succumb to extensive damage if not caught in time.
IPD recommends that you check the coolant level and quality of the coolant regularly. When it comes time to flush your coolant, it is recommended to replace the thermostat. Thermostats have been known to and stick, causing overheating and poor running conditions. If your temperature gauge fluctuates in traffic, listen to make sure that the auxiliary cooling fan is running. If you cannot hear the fan, be sure to check the fan itself for a burned out motor. Occasionally, the relay to the cooling fan can fail eliminating power to the fan. Water pumps are not prone to failure, but eventually they will require replacement. Consider replacing it when changing the timing belt as a preventive measure as the timing belt must be removed during a water pump replacement.
