Oil Filter Cap Wrench 1999 and newer Volvos use a paper cartridge insert and a reusable plastic housing. The idea is that when it's time to replace the filter, only the paper element needs to be recycled as the housing is now reusable. Use cap wrench on this style filter. Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle. Some products may include or exclude some model years or engine and transmission combinations. The products listed on our website are for Volvos sold in the North American market. Many of the parts are exactly the same as those used in other markets, however we cannot guarantee fitment for those markets.

Cap wrench has worked out well on past two oil changes using this tool. No issues with sticking or poor quality, this has been a great addition to my tool chest.

Initially the tool slipped on my housing cover because it had been overtightened, probably by a lube shop. I was able to put tin foil inside the tool to take up the slack between the tool and filter housing. With this snug fit, and a few well timed impacts on my breaker bar with a hammer the housing broke free. From that point on the tool worked great. When I reinstalled the cover I did not use the tin foil and did not over tighten. Tool works fine but could be better if it was a little tighter fit.

The best $39.95 I've spent all year (2009). Spent more time removing and replacing splash shields than I did changing the oil. I've changed the oil on my 240s, 960s & 850 but I've never had to remember to install the o-ring like I do on the XC70. Good tool!!

Great kit! Filter has to be pushed on firmly and the cap wrench sometimes gets stuck after tightening. But quick oil change place put in a filter that was just flopping around and not filtering at all and a little tap usually releases the cap wrench. Using new o-rings and crush washers every time has stopped my leak too. I guess if you want something done right you just have to do it yourself.

The weld broke the 2nd time I used the cap. I then took it to work and did a proper weld job and it has been fine ever since. It can be difficult to remove the wrench from the plastic filter housing. IPD needs to do more than just have a spot weld to hold the socket fitting to the cap.
ipd customer service response: ipd does offer two different styles of tool. The T261 is our more economical version and the T1275OS is a heavy duty style that we manufacture.

Used this tool to change the filter on my 2001 S40 that I recently bought. THere is no way I'd have been able to remove the filter without this, or put it back on tight enough. THe plastic one looks flimsy while this one is very strong and fits nice and tight on the housing so you can get a grip. It needs a 1/2" drive.

This tool works fantastic. Don't even bother trying to get the oil filter casing off with the cheaper pot metal version. The cheaper tool doesn't grab the casing on enough of the flat surfaces and slips too much.
IPD's products and shipping are very good.

This product worked great. My oil filter cover was extremely tight and overtorqued, but this attachments loosened it up with no problem or breakage. Definitely worth the money over the premium ones in my opinion.
