Volvo S60 » Downpipe Upgrades
When R owners want more power than our Power Packs offer, a high flowing race-bred turbo down pipe is the next step in the upgrade process. A down pipe upgrade will significantly reduce back pressure, allowing the engine to breathe easier and thus provide much improved throttle response, torque production and good old HP (typically in the range of 15-20 HP and 20-25 lbs/ft of torque). Exhaust tone is slightly different (throatier), but not really louder. Search popular forums and you will find comments such as:
- “Boost builds 500-800 rpms sooner….”
- “Throttle response is much improved….”
- “Mid range pull is smoother and less strained feeling..."
ipd downpipes utilize a metal monolith 3-way catalytic converter. Metal monolith cats are expensive, but flow much better than the ceramic cats you’ll find in most aftermarket down pipes. Also, an integrated flex-joint helps to eliminate stress cracking and vibration. 3” mandrel bent stainless steel for highest flow capacity and long life. Oxygen sensor ports are retained as well as factory mounting points and connections. Our pipes also include attachment points for the heat shield, an ipd exclusive. Also included are new gaskets, hi temp joint compound and an oxygen sensor lead extension, which is necessary on some models. Our down pipe is compatible with the stock exhaust as well as most aftermarket systems. Will pass emissions tests, but may not be legal in cars with less than 50,000 miles on them. We are offering these upgrades for off road use only, not for use on any Federal or state highway.
*For optimal results, Stage II software is required when using a down pipe on these models to prevent boost spikes (moderate hesitation during hard acceleration transients). Stage II software is $995 or $495 when upgrading from Stage 1. Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle. Some products may include or exclude some model years or engine and transmission combinations.

I use this pipe with Stage 2 software and the factory exhaust on a 2007 S60R. The pipe is well-made and fits perfectly. The hangers are right where they should be. Installation was easy, and I didn't need to use the provided oxygen sensor extension cable. I had to have a local muffler shop add a 2" extension to the front of the factory resonator. If you're matching this pipe to an aftermarket exhaust, you won't need to do that because the exhaust will be in parts with slip joints, not a single solid piece like the factory system.
The pipe and software perform exceptionally. Boost builds a bit sooner than with the stock setup. The most impressive characteristic is the smoothness and controllability of the power delivery. Power hits strong compared to stock as expected, but it is silky smooth. Control in transitioning on or off throttle is greatly improved. The sound is great too. I was already getting 19 to 20 mpg in purely city driving, but now it's up 3 to 4 mpg. I highly recommend this product and Stage 2 software. Superb performance and excellent value. Thanks IPD!

I added the new IPD Downpipe to my exhaust configuration earlier this year. The shop that did the installation said they were impressed with the welds and quality of the part.
It didn't take more than a few seconds of driving to fall in love with the car all over again. I was also surprised at how little cabin noise was added with the installation. I immediately noticed the increase in throttle response, and the turbo seemed to spool "easier" and less strained.
I would buy this again, without hesitation. IPD made the purchase a real treat.
