Engine Stabilizer Upper Poly Bushing Kit Increase engine holding even further with ipd’s polyurethane upper engine stabilizer kit for V70, S60, S80, and XC90 (2003-06). Be careful when comparing our kit to competitors as many kits are offered as one piece to do one side only. Our kit includes two bushings and washers to do a complete job and upgrade both sides of the stabilizer mount. Decreases fore/aft and left/right movement in the upper engine bar, allowing more power to transfer through the transmission instead of being lost to engine rotation. Our kit installs in about 10 minutes with common hand tools. Instructions included.
Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle. Some products may include or exclude some model years or engine and transmission combinations. The products listed on our website are for Volvos sold in the North American market. Many of the parts are exactly the same as those used in other markets, however we cannot guarantee fitment for those markets.
ipd does not charge your credit card until the product actually ships from our warehouse.

This has improved shifting (6MT) from a start and even from 1st to 2nd. Everything else I've read above is also true, this is a great mod close to being a necessity.

OK, I'm going to post this twice, since I really think this is a review of two parts: the Poly upper motor mount bushing and the strut bar bushings.
On my 95 850, no strut bar, the upper mount was bolted directly to the firewall. Back then, just changing the upper mount bushing was a HUUUGE improvement.
For all you R owners (and anyone else who has the same strut bar) the upper mount is attached to the BAR, not the firewall. So, common sense says while you have the strut bar off to change the upper mount bushing, you might as well add the strut bar bushings. It adds a whopping 3.5 minutes to the job (and a minute of that is spent opening the ziploc bag and taking pictures ;)).
Not only that, but my upper mount bushing was completely torn through top and bottom. Given how much the strut bar flexes, I cant imagine the stresses that the engine exerted on that mount and, subsequently, the strut bar, in order to shear something that was so flexible to begin with. My strut bar rotated several degrees, and i could "bottom" out the bolts just by twisting with my bare hands. In other words, the stock strut bushings were doing NOTHING.
PROs: Fast forward to the completed job. I could BARELY twist the strut bar by hand with the poly bushings. And forget about the upper mount- it just LOOKS cooler and is obviously a better design. I took her for a drive, and I couldnt BELIEVE the difference. The car turned MUCH flatter at speed, and in fact, I gained a little oversteer in tight, fast turns (or, perhaps I was just so used to understeer!).
Cons: Not really a con for me, but maybe for some. I have the 6mt, and with clutch depressed at a stoplight, RPMs below 1000, i can feel the motor through the steering wheel and in my seat. Not outrageous, but its there. above 1000 and she smooths right out (i also have the blue lower tranny mount but so that could be contributing as well). But in all honesty, I didnt buy the R for a waterbed-like ride, thats what my Lincoln is for. These parts give you what you want out of a sport coupe- the feeling that you're steering the car by dragging your hands on the road itself...
Summary: Again, if you have to buy one, buy the other! You wont be sorry!
Well done once again IPD!

This was my first suspension/chassis modification, and I was very pleased. Stiffened up the stabilizer bar substantially, and the handling results were striking. Turn-in is immediate, with much reduced body roll heightened steering response. I must say that with no other suspension mods, this bushing kit does have an interesting effect on understeer. It is much more predictable and progressive than without the bushings, but does seem to set in earlier. I installed front and rear strut tower braces a couple days later, and the effects were fantastic when combined with the bushings. Very neutral in the corners with slight power oversteer available on command. Highly recommended if you are considering making suspension and chassis improvements.

Impressive change to control when driving. Much better feel and stiffness without any shakes in the steering wheel. Tough trying to get the bolt out of each side on my '06 S60 R but I managed... hold onto your tools and pieces because i dropped a wrench down into my engine compartment and it took more time to recover that then install the actual kit! Takes closer to 30 minutes to install.

Something that costs $36 and takes 5 minutes to install has no right to make this big a difference.
I figured it was a good upgrade, but didn't expect to notice a difference. on my S60 on my normal drive to work around the corners where my tires normal squeal, no more noise just grip. This was much cheaper than dumping the stock Michelin tires for something better.

I installed these stabilizer end bushings a while ago and never wrote a review.
Just wanted to say that despite already having added the IPD poly bushing to my upper mount, I still don't have any noticeable vibration issues. A little more "feel" in the steering wheel, from both the engine and road, which I suppose might be bad if your motor is running rough or the road is really bumpy, but no noticeable increase in the vibration felt in my feet.
Makes me wonder if those experiencing problems are installing these products wrong. I torqued all nuts and bolts to spec and made sure to remove all of the previous bushing when required.
Anywho, another great IPD upgrade! Wish they made more of them for my S80.

Installed bushings in my late-2001 S60 (production date: early July 2001) -- slipped right into the housing. Entire process took about 5 - 7 minutes.
Handling improved significantly on our scarred and crumbling SF Bay Area roads -- better cornering, travel over bumps not as dramatic, steering feels tighter.
And, I previously installed the IPD rear engine mount (urethane), so minimal added vibration from that mount not increased by these bushings.
Very worthwhile investment to achieve better handling and road feel for minimal amount of cash.

With a little modification for my '01, this kit works great. A big improvement in cornering. I cut the top lip/lining of the bushing so it could fit together with the new washer on the '01 brackets. Just having the poly bushing and new washer (with a tad bit of over-tightening) made a noticeable difference in handling. A small amount of vibration is noticeable at idle but the results far outweigh the side-effects in my opinion. Anybody with a '01 will be able to modify the bushing with a razor blade, although once you do it, you obviously can't return it. I took a chance and am completely satisfied with the result.

I just installed these on my 1999 s80 T6. I did notice better response from the engine and less movement from the "strut bar" or upper engine support. This product almost makes me want to try the strut bar conversion mounts. This is a great economical alternative.
My only issue was with the fitment. I had to do a fair amount of machining to get the bushings to fit through the bottom of the mounts. The bushing was way bigger than the hole in the mount. Once I got the hole big enough the bushing nestled tightly into the stock bushing and fit well.
