iPod Adapters Take advantage of your portable technology while on the road. ipd’s new iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your Volvo’s factory radio and control it just as though it was a CD changer. Use your factory radio's CD changer controls to access and control up to five different mobile play lists. Song up/down, shuffle, random, etc., all with true digital quality sound. It even adds an additional Aux input for DVD audio, MP3, GPS audio, etc.
Maintain the use of factory steering wheel controls or operate it directly from your iPod. Access unlimited songs per each mobile play list. The auto memory feature locates the last song of each play list, the auto skip feature gets you to the end of play list with your factory CD changer FF button, and the auto charge feature charges your iPod’s battery. The adapter even auto stops after one hour of non-use.
 Compatible with all iPod, iPod Mini, and iPod Nano models equipped with a dock connector and iPod software update 2004-04-28, or higher (not directly compatible with iPod Shuffle). Radio must have CD changer as a selectable source to work with this kit. Our ipod adapters are not compatible with radio head units labeled with part number "SC-901" and they won't work with XC90 or 2004.5 and later S40 or V50 models. (See the image for help identifying your radio.)
Our iPod adapters come with an ipd DVD instructional video that makes installation a breeze for someone with basic automotive knowledge.
Please note: iPhone 3G, Nano 4th G and iPod Touch 2nd G will work with the current and past versions of our iPod adapter kits, however charging will not be supported. If you would like to enable charging, simply purchase the 3G cable and use it to replace the cable that came with the ipod adapter kit. This is the cable that goes from the adapter module to your iPod, so it should be pretty easy to replace.

The products listed on our website are for Volvos sold in the North American market. Many of the parts are exactly the same as those used in other markets, however we cannot guarantee fitment for those markets.

I installed this adapter without complication into my 2004 S80 2.9. The DVD was extremely helpful.
However, ipd's description of this adapter is incomplete—it fails to exclude 3rd Generation iPods (what's now known as the classic, one without a click wheel). My 3rd gen iPod does not work in hybrid mode or iPod Direct mode with this adapter... when I attempt to use the iPod own controls, the controls are never released to the iPod. While this adapter does indeed work as advertised with a 5th gen iPod (video), the ipd product description does not provide adequate detail to exclude 3rd gen or earlier iPods.
I recognize that I'm rare to still have a functioning 3rd gen, but I hadn't planned on buying new iPod just to match this adapter.

Installed in my daughter's 04 S40 in 30 min. Sound quality is fantastic! No issues with noise. Grounded to HU chassis.

Like Steve Said, there's not a good grounding point under the dash, but I've found there's not a good grounding point even further down the line.
I contacted USA Spec and they replaced the old filter with a new filter which helped, but there's still electrical whine and a static hiss that you can hear engage when the iPod starts charging again. I've tested it on a couple different models of iPod with no noticable change.
Other than that the controls work perfectly, plug it in. Hit the random button and rock out.

Not difficult to install but there isn't a good grounding point under the dash so there is an electrical whine when the product is in use. It could use a longer ground wire so you can get to a good mounting point or an inline filter to clean up the power.

Insatalled in a 2001 S-40, sounds great! Install took only about 1 hr and was able to hide the unit under the center console beside the air bag controller. DVD included did not really apply to the S-40, but removing the shift lever bezel as shown on the DVD is a must!!! Wish I had this about 4 years ago!!!

Extremely easy to install on my 2005 S60 2.5T. Installed in less that 20 minutes with common hand tools. I have the HU-650 head unit with the single-CD and no cassette. Works just fine and the sound quality is amazing! Excellent product!

The IPOD adapter was easy to install if you follow the instructional video IPD adds to the kit.
I made the extra effort to install the cable in the console box, The CD changer controls work beautifully to control the IPOD playlists.
Cameron and Ron really helped out here.

Install was a breeze with the included installation DVD. I chose this kit in large part because it also includes the option of connecting a standard 1/8" mini-jack line in which allows you to connect any portable device, not just an ipod. I haven't run the cables into the center console yet, but getting the device wired in took approximately 30 minutes.

I had the kit installed in under 30 min and is so easy to do. All my power upgrades are useless during Seattle's rush hour, but this helps me rock out all the time. I have made the center console my iPod's home for good.

Yesterday I have installed the iPod adapter and... it works great! Now I can enjoy my complete music collection by the click on a button.
Due to the detailled and clear installation intructions by IPD the installation was a piece of cake.
