Pollen Filter If you’re looking to replace your pollen filter, why not upgrade to the thicker charcoal activated filter for cars with the premium interior air quality system (IAQS)? Your vehicle may not have come from the factory with the IAQS but you can still use the higher quality filter. For vehicles equipped with IAQS, this is the factory replacement filter. I could not believe how filthy my old filter was.
I have a RHD S40 and to fit this filter you have to remove the glove box and the central electronic module un-doing all the looms and clips (take note of what goes where), then remove the module bracket. Pull the carpet back and the filter is located behind a black panel at the rear right, on the firewall, of the large cavity you have just created in the front left of your car. Remove the panel, pull the old filter out, vacuum up the old crap that falls out, fit the new filter (the correct direction with air flow into the car) and reverse the previous disassembly procedures.
It would be good sense to have a 'bone tool' Part#: T1014 as you need to remove the panel to the left of the glove box, and behind the centre console to remove the glove box. This tool is fantastic and will prevent you from damaging any of the plastic dash board components.
The job took about an hour all up. Park your car so you have heaps of access through the passenger door. And get something soft to kneel on, you'll spend a lot of time on your knees with this job.

Highly recommended! very hard to install since it is in a very odd place, but the cabin feels a lot better right of the bat as soon as you turn on the AC....

Very hard to locate and replace in a 2005 S40.
The filter is located just to the right of the accelerator pedal.
To replace you will need to remove the lower cover and the accelerator pedal (remove the electrical plug and put the pedal assembly out completely). I pulled the carpet back also..
Then remove the 3 - 7mm hex head screws holding the access cover for the filter. The filter will need to be bent out as you remove it..
The clean up the mess from pulling the old filter out..
To put the new filter in will take some bending as it is inserted in the slot.. then just re-install everything...
My filter after 30 k miles was very dirty and moldy.. the new filter make a big difference of the smell (moldy) and the air flow...
