Volvo S40 2004.5-2008 » Scan Gauge

I am a GM Master tech that just happens to own a 99 S70 T-5. I bought the Scan Gauge II to use as a generic code reader for cars that weren't GM and to check status for State Inspections. I've only had the tool for 2 days and i absolutely love it. The tool is ridiculously fast. I can check DTC'S and I/M status 10X faster than the GM TECH2. i have yet to use all the trip functions but I'm going to be all over that tomorrow. Example: My Tech2 was being used and I had a waiter running a bit bad with an engine light. i was able to check the DTC (EGR problem) and use the "Gauge" function to have a quick look at the MAP sensor. Was able to tell the EGR was hanging open a bit, cleaned it out, cleared the code, and that car was done and GONE before i could even turn the Tech2 on. Yes it does lack a lot of features as compared to a scanner, but for the price and the features it does have I'd have payed 3X as much for it. I give the Scan GaugeII 15 Thumbs UP!!!!!

First of all, very simple interface. Picked this up to help improve Fuel Economy. The instant feedback is invaluable. Immediately saw where I could improve my driving technique. EPA estimates 21/28 MPG. After just a few days practice, I have achieved 33 MPG city!! I'm proud of that accomplishment. The Scan Gauge will make anyone a better driver and could pay for itself quickly. Highly recommend.

Bought one (not from ipd+) to try on my S80 2.5D yr2000, doesn't work with this model.

EDIT- You have to select the correct communication protocol in the scangauge for this model, user guide explains how.
