 If you’re looking to replace your pollen filter, why not upgrade to the thicker charcoal activated filter for cars with the premium interior air quality system (IAQS)? Very hard to locate and replace in a 2005 S40.
The filter is located just to the right of the accelerator pedal.
To replace you will need to remove the lower cover and the accelerator pedal (remove the electrical plug and put the pedal assembly out completely). I pulled the carpet back also..
Then remove the 3 - 7mm hex head screws holding the access cover for the filter. The filter will need to be bent out as you remove it..
The clean up the mess from pulling the old filter out..
To put the new filter in will take some bending as it is inserted in the slot.. then just re-install everything...
My filter after 30 k miles was very dirty and moldy.. the new filter make a big difference of the smell (moldy) and the air flow...
