Exhaust Headers

This header is a great bang for the buck item. It could only be better (in my opinion) if it was a 4-2-1 design instead of the 4-1, but I'm just being picky now. My original manifold had broken the #1 runner clean off. Since installing this header along with a new Simons sport exhaust kit, my 142E has a nice rumble to the exhaust and I can tell that header has definitely improved the breathing of the old B20E.

I only gave 4 stars though, as the supplied gasket that came with the header did not work; it was without the dowel pin hole that is located between the #2 & #3 exhaust ports on the bottom side. The header itself had the dowel hole but the gasket didn't. It was a nice all-metal gasket too, shame I couldn't use it. Probably works just fine for the non-injected heads though, or if I'd removed that dowel pin from my E head.

nice installation experience. The toughest part of the install was removing the old head bolts. Really. Otherwise it was simply a matter of time, patience and precious few tools. I do not believe that headers are typically so co-operative. I particularly appreciated the stud/locknut hardware offered separately.
tweeks-the gasket I got did not allow for the mounting stub which aligns the (injected) intake. A couples of snips, though, and we were back in business.
Also, the manufacturer calls for a pitence of copper gasket dressing so limited that the potential for good will by including it in order to enable an "all-in-one-kit" feature/benefit would certainly outweigh omitting this detail, I think.

A great addition to the engine in my '72 ES. Looks great - better than chrome to me. Sounds as good as it looks, and an easy installation. i had to drive without out anything hooke dup to it to the muffler shop and make syou feel like Roger the Race Car dirver;-)I replaced the rest of the exhasut system with it's installation. I it coupled to a 2.5" exhasut with a pair of glass packs. The driving difference was noticible. On a subjective level, the engine seemed to me to run better. Thx IPD!

I am the original owner of a '73 142e. Back in the late 70's I put a set of ipd headers on my car and they are still doing their job. I noticed a power increase from the moment I installed them and was always impressed with how heavily they were built.

Now, after more than two decades, they are starting to leak from the collector and need to be replaced.

I am not sure what more you can say for ipd quality than to have an exhaust component last this long. Like many other ipd components on my car, the headers were a fantastic bargain when you look at the cost per year of service.

Thanks IPD for shipping the header to me in Australia! It arrived in great shape and fits perfectly on my 1800ES. The ceramic coating looks great and I'm sure it will give me years of pleasure on the car.
