Volvo P1800 » Wheel Cylinders
Just because you have drum rear brakes doesn't mean that you should have to settle for marginal braking. Next time you have the drums off, inspect the wheel cylinders - this is especially important because most models with drum rear brakes use only one circuit, unlike the newer Volvos. Check for signs of leaking brake fluid (any is too much) and pay special attention to the rubber boots; cracks are a sign of age. Good brakes are critical - we recommend replacing worn parts with new instead of rebuilt.
To help verify the cylinder without pulling the drum off, you can measure the bolt hole spacing (that holds the cylinder to the backing plate). Wagner cylinders have 1 1/4” center-to-center spacing. Girling have 1 3/4” spacing.
Please consult the illustrations before ordering. Outside piston face as it appears in wheel cylinder.
