Volvo C70 1998-2005 » Heavy Duty Polyurethane Transmission Mount
Heavy Duty Polyurethane Longitudinal Transmission Torque Mount
Most front wheel drive and all wheel drive Volvos utilize a link style transmission mount installed between the transmission and the engine subframe. This mount is designed to limit the twisting torque of the power train under acceleration. The mount has two bushings in it and the larger of the two bushings is very soft and prone to premature failure, which allows the engine and transmission to over torque, stressing other mounts and noticeably reducing performance and shifting smoothness.
ipd has developed an effective economical solution that replaces the large high void area rubber bushing with a heavy duty full polyurethane bushing. The upgrade is available as a kit that allows you to replace the faulty bushing or as a complete assembled unit for those of you who prefer a direct bolt on part. Pressing out the original bushing is pretty easy and can be done with a medium size vice and hammer. A press is not required. Replacing the complete part takes about 30 minutes with common hand tools, add an addition 10 minutes if you are pressing the new bushing into your original hardware.
Instructions are included.

This assembly is amazing, my car used to do some clunky downshift thing when I let off the gas, and this totally went away after installing this new part. My old smaller rubber bushing was totally gone, broken and and moved in every which way. I highly recommend getting the full assembly for this because I take it that my bad bushing is not alone. Great specific instructions too, not that it was hard but I've never order a part with such detailed instructions down to the foot pounds of torque for the bolts.

Recently bought the lower transmission mount. The new mount stiffened up the feel of the car and makes for better shifts. No more clunky shifts that sound horrible if you have your window down. I heard that the rubber bushing goes around the 60,000 mile mark and you can end up grinding syncros. Good insurance to have for about $100.

WOW What a difference I have a 98V70R AWD and I noticed better shifting quicker respnse and no more clunky shifts. I replaced just the polyurethane bushing using the original bracket. I was able to put the car on a rack to make it easier and had the mount off in no time but with the tight fit under there make sure to have metric wrenches as well as sockets. once i got the mount off i sprayed the part with some penatrating oil and let sit for a couple of minutes. I found using a deep socket and rubber mallet to pound out the old bushing worked the best i measured the new bushing and found a socket that matched up the best (sorry I can't remember the size) and then I had to slightly bend the mount to get back together. I also recommend the fire wall mount and upper torque mount.

The big bushing is good no doubt about it, but the smaller one is the first to go on the R cars as is the case with my car to (I have a manual transmission). I'm waiting for IPD to come out with the small one before ordering both.
Buying the hole assembly is wasteful. I agree that the assembly has its purpose for people that may not have the skill to replace the individual bushings, or when the original bushings have worn so much that the metal is damaged.
ipd customer service response: We've looked at making a poly replacement for the small bushing, but the rubber bushing is very difficult to remove from these mounts. The 8K0140 that we sell is a Scantech brand unit with a solid rubber small bushing. The OEM mount has a very soft small bushing that fails regularly. The 8K0140 is a good upgrade, but can cause some vibration when used with our poly upper engine mount.

I didn't tell my wife I changed the trans bushing before she drove it and her comment was "Wow! What did you do to the car!?! It's roars like a lion now!" (It's a good thing). There is quite a bit of vibration inside the car, and I now suspect that the engine mounts now need replacing because of being over-stretched. Over-all, a big improvement. The firewall mount and engine mounts are next. I'd give it a 5, but I'm docking it a bit for vibration.

Installed this on my 97 850 T5. Shifting as well as driving is smoother. Well worth the upgrade. Thank you IPD!

Fast and easy. Bought the complete assembly. Used to get a pretty good thunk if I was too aggressive with the gas while turning a corner. There is a little more vibration, but also replaced the top engine mount, also shot. Hard to say which is the culprit. Seems to be smoother on warm days when the bushings are softened up a bit.

I installed this on my 1993 850 5 speed. This mount is seemingly over looked. I orderd this along with the upper Poly torque mount insert and the Poly firewall mount. I love all the added feel of the motor. I dont like cushy stock mounts >:{> I love these mounts!!!

Highly recommended product. I changed the whole mount, took about 35 minuts overall. No jerking with the reinforced mount at all. I drive a -04 2.0 Turbo with automatic trans, and the jerking/shifting in the drivetrain when you ease on/off the throttle at low speed or just need a little correction of speed is gone :)

This goes for all the mounts. They tighten your engine supports but they will deliver every single ounce of power to the wheels, therefore more power! Now, tightening comes with a little vibration if you force the engine.
