Heater Core As these models age, we are seeing an increasing number of heater core failures. When the core fails, you’ll get anti-freeze vapor out of the interior vents. Especially noticeable when the defroster is used. Left unrepaired, this can also lead to serious corrosion problems in the floor pan. This is a very time consuming job as the entire dash must come out and the heater housing cases must be split. Plan at least a day with level 3 skills or consider having it done by an experienced shop. Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle. Some products may include or exclude some model years or engine and transmission combinations. The products listed on our website are for Volvos sold in the North American market. Many of the parts are exactly the same as those used in other markets, however we cannot guarantee fitment for those markets.

Unorthodox but true. My heater core died a horrible steamy death in the 1988 760 turbo wagon. Beginning the dash dismantle, I could see the hours of dismantle only to be followed by hours of trying to get everything back together. My AC had long since lost its freon and capacity to be easily restored. With 5 ft of 5/8" heater hose and some clamps, I cut the A/C lines out and rerouted the heater core lines to the A/C core lines. Be sure to remove the small plastic inline filter from the lower port of the A/C core with needle nose pliers. Ta Da. $15 and 1 hour easy work for plenty of no hassle heat.
