Volvo oil pumps are top quality and rarely fail, but they can suffer from abuse due to built up sludge in the oil pan. Another problem as pumps age is sticky pressure relief valves that can cause too much for too little pressure. If you are having oil pressure problems and you have ruled out any problems with bearing clearance, a new pump may be in order. Always install a new pump when rebuilding an engine.
