Adjustable Cam Gear Our cam gear provides the edge in performace for your B21, B23 or B230 engines from
1976-1992. Adjustable in 2.5 degree increments up to 10 degrees, either advance or
retarded, and it weighs less than half the factory gear! A fixed single piece, this gear is
adjusted by lining up the desired inscribed timing mark with the factory timing mark and
placing the corresponding dowel hole on the cam. This should not be confused with ignition
timing. By advancing the gear you will gain low end power at the expense of upper range
power and by retarding the gear you will gain upper range power with a link reduction in low
end power. This gear provides the widest range of adjustment from high RPM turning race
engines to the big bore non turbo motors with lots of low end grunt! Our gear is hard
anodized for long life and tested for durability. A perfect match for our VX and Turbo
performance camshafts or even use it with your stock cam. Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle. Some products may include or exclude some model years or engine and transmission combinations. The products listed on our website are for Volvos sold in the North American market. Many of the parts are exactly the same as those used in other markets, however we cannot guarantee fitment for those markets.

I would have preferred the old style adjustable cam gear which facilitated timing alterations without removing the gear. Constantly removing the gear during tuning operations is tiring. In addition, there is no dowel hole to run the cam at zero degrees and the timing increments are to broad for my application. The quality of the product is top notch however, all the edges are burr free and the finish is holding up well.

I am thinking about buying this, but why can't it be used with 1993 models?
ipd customer service response: The 1993 model year had round teeth on the timing gear and the timing belt as opposed to the square teeth found on the 1976-1992 models.

this is the first product from ipd that i can say i am pleased with. i originally bought this because of the advertising claim that it weighs less than half the factory gear. in the case of my b230f, it weighs more than half the factory gear; however, the inertial moment turned out to be 48.8 percent of the factory gear's and that IS what really matters anyway. aside from that, i didnt find any performance gains by adjusting the cam timing. maybe that would work for you if youre running different pistons and you never installed an appropriate camshaft, or better yet if you have seperate intake and exhaust camshafts (i dont know maybe this would fit on the b234).

After installing the IPD Turbo cam, the adjustable cam gear gives back the low end torque the cam does away with...with little effect on top end!!
