Heavy Duty Polyurethane Transmission Mount

Heavy Duty Polyurethane Longitudinal Transmission Torque Mount

Most front wheel drive and all wheel drive Volvos utilize a link style transmission mount installed between the transmission and the engine subframe. This mount is designed to limit the twisting torque of the power train under acceleration. The mount has two bushings in it and the larger of the two bushings is very soft and prone to premature failure, which allows the engine and transmission to over torque, stressing other mounts and noticeably reducing performance and shifting smoothness.

ipd has developed an effective economical solution that replaces the large high void area rubber bushing with a heavy duty full polyurethane bushing. The upgrade is available as a kit that allows you to replace the faulty bushing or as a complete assembled unit for those of you who prefer a direct bolt on part. Pressing out the original bushing is pretty easy and can be done with a medium size vice and hammer. A press is not required. Replacing the complete part takes about 30 minutes with common hand tools, add an addition 10 minutes if you are pressing the new bushing into your original hardware.

Instructions are included.

Please note! These polyurethane bushings are firmer than the stock rubber parts they replace and can transmit additional vibration in some cases. Especially if the motor mounts and or transmission mounts are worn. When you replace the worn out rubber mount, now much of the load is supported by the new stiffer bushing and this can often lead to unwanted vibration, especially at idle on models equipped with automatic transmissions. It’s important to make sure that your other mounts are in good condition to avoid unwanted vibration.

This product is comparable to the QBM140 product.

I installed this tonight on my '05 S60R. It was very simple (less than 30 mins) and made a massive improvement in shift quality. If there is additional vibration, I cannot tell. Two tips:

- I have two full sets of Craftsman sockets (deep and shallow) neither has an 18 mm, I used an 18 box wrench to remove, but needed a socket for torquing
- The two smaller bolts have thread lock on them, but you should put new on to reinstall

Bottom line-another quality IPD product that will markedly improve shifting

When my 95 850GLT broke the lower mount, I just went to a junkyard. That car had 200k+ miles on it and the bushings were fine. My 04 S60R has 48k and the bushing is trashed, both big and small. I only bought the big bushing, not realizing until i changed it out that the smaller half was shot too. But even with the smaller half soft, it still feels better than it did.

So now, I'll just buy the whole unit, and have 2 mounts: one blue for daily driving, and one black for the track. Done.

the poly transmission mount bushing has added only a neglible of amount of vibration
and the net effect is positive as the throttle response is now crisp and immediate. it
complements the poly upper bushing that was installed earlier this month. it should be
mentioned that the upper poly bushing had a much more noticeable effect.

the old rubber transmission bushing was a bear to remove despite having a proper-
sized socket and a vise. i ended up having to cut the plastic insert with a hacksaw in
order for the bushing to come out. it appeared to be in good condition
cosmetically(perhaps this explains the lack of vibration).

vibrates at idle due to upper and lower and strut bar all on poly bushings but it is cheaper than oem volvo rubber being replaced under warranty twice in 50k
should break in in 10k miles much better than stock same install on my 850 with idle vibrations, wifes xc 90 is next.

I have a v70xc, so this is the only option for me. I went for the softer blue rubber and find it pretty close to stock density so this is not a big risk to take. Installation took about 45 min. I'd really like to see either a full mount for the xc or a bushing option for the small end.

I just put this in my 99 s70-NA automatic and a super pro top mount. i did find that it looked like it could be shaped a little better, regardless it still went in with out modifying it. my trans thanks you IPD and so do I.

I bought this for my 95 850 5-speed NA's 200,000 mile "birthday." I also have the ipd polyurethane engine mount.
Installation was a breeze...once I spent 4 hours trying to get the old mount off! I actually wasn't able to remove the stock smaller soft mount because I foolishly rounded off one of the 14mm bolts. Instead, I removed the soft black rubber bushing from the ipd mount and installed the blue poly bushing and assembly onto my stock soft bushing.
The first thing I noticed was how easily I could go through the gears; shifting feels a lot smoother. The next thing I noticed was throttle response! After I installed the poly engine mount last year, my car growled and had a lot more torque through first and second gear pulls. Now, with these mounts coupled together, I'm instantly thrown back into my seat. I also don't notice anymore violent lurching in acceleration and much less lurch when I abruptly let off the throttle.
I haven't tried on the harder black mount yet. First, I want to see how the blue mount performs on the track this weekend (can't wait)! Car feels a lot tighter and more pleasing to drive around town. Also, I'm happy to report that I haven't noticed any more vibration, the engine mount introduced a noticeable amount last year, but I can't feel any more with the trans mount. Anyway, thanks ipd - I'm still pretty sore from yesterday, but maybe I'll come around to forgive my car for its rusty bolts in the coming months. Cheers,
Chris

The front end of my car had been clunking for quite a while, redid the suspension (Koni, Eibach, spring seats, etc.) got rid of some of the noise. But the firmer suspension combined with a solid strut brace (no bushing) and harsh roads with hard driving had torn through the transmission mount. When I did the oil change I noticed that my less than 60k mile car had already completely ripped apart the small bushing.

I'm using the blue bushing (softer) for now, but have already noticed that this with the needed transmission flush (see ipd kit) has made my auto shift seamlessly and much more quickly then before. Even though I'm using the blue bushing it still transfers vibration and noise into the cabin (mostly at idle) that is noticeable. IMO a tasteful, sporty feel of firmness. I can imagine the firmer bushing will transfer a lot of cabin noise, maybe I'll try it closer to the summer.

Was surprised to see the poly bushing was black when I opened it instead of blue.
I'm glad it looks stock as I prefer parts don't pop out at me while I am under the car.
Call me crazy but I put off this upgrade because of the blue bushing until I REALLY
needed it. Either way thanks for a great product. No install Problems for my S60

Ditto Ricks comments. Just buy the whole mount, don't try to rehab yours. Large bushing didn't fit worth a damn, bracket was egg shaped (factory volvo part), & the small bushing was trashed. Don't get me wrong, the part seems to be well made, just do yourself a favor & double check yours or just but the whole mount.
