Emergency (Parking) Brake Shoes and Cables

If your parking/emergency brake is not doing it's job anymore, the first thing to do is to check the cables to see if one is broken or if an adjustment will solve the problem. Most good shop manuals cover this relatively simple procedure. If the cables are intact and adjustment doesn't provide any improvement, then most likely the problem is due to worn out emergency brake shoes. Cable or shoe replacement will require that the rear calipers and rotors be removed for access. (includes cable housing)

Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle.

1330310 Reviewed by Nelson and Alison Mathiesen from Woolstock, Ia 50599

I needed to replace the rear rotors and calipers on our 1990 745 wagon with out anti-lock brakes. We ordered the IPD Parking brake shoes also. The replacement installation was quite an easy disassembly combined with a good cleaning and a light coat of high temperature paint on the rear mounting shrouds. But remember to place a little dab of lubricant on the shroud dimples where the shoes ride before installation.
