 J-type overdrive solenoids rarely fail and are pretty easy to test. You should get a solid engagement click when 12 volts is applied to the terminals. If the click is faint or inaudible, it may have failed. Do not use vice grips to remove the solenoid. A special thin 1” end wrench is required to prevent damage to the solenoid internals (available below). 1 year warranty. It was a ripoff, FCP Groton has the same part for $160. Although it isn't genuine volvo, it does the same job. Also, it took more than 2 weeks to ship the part from Portland to Oakland, not impressed. You might say "well why did you buy it here if its a rip? My answer is FCP just started carrying it.
ipd customer service response: The demand for this part has slowed dramatically in the last few years. Although many other aftermarket sources have stopped carrying it we have decided to continue listing the solenoid from the only consistent source we can find: Volvo. It is possible that another supplier may have found some old stock or another source, but it's very unlikely that the supply will last for long. The delay in shipment was because we do not stock this slow moving item and had to get it from Volvo. Our website clearly states the brand and availability for products like this one.
