Power Steering Pump & Reservoir Power steering failure is not something you want to experience. Failure of the power steering pump can be quite frightening with the big increase in steering effort. Fortunately pumps usually give some indication of pending failure. Symptoms you may want to look for are:
- Leaking power steering fluid
- Squealing when starting the engine (make sure your belts are in good condition)
- Squealing while turning, particularly on tight corners
- Stiffness while turning
