Belly Pan We often get calls from customers looking for a splash pan, sometimes called the belly pan or lower engine cover. Since most cars don’t come with them many people assume splash pans are not important. But the pan plays an important role in maintaining the longevity of your Volvo’s powerplant.
It keeps water, dirt, gravel, rocks, wood, road grime, and debris off critical engine components like the alternator and belts. Volvo also suggests that the pan aids in cooling efficiency by forcing the airflow across the entire engine compartment.
Check your Volvo to ensure that your splash pan is intact and in good working condition. Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle. Some products may include or exclude some model years or engine and transmission combinations. The products listed on our website are for Volvos sold in the North American market. Many of the parts are exactly the same as those used in other markets, however we cannot guarantee fitment for those markets.

A must for any 240, all road grime and water gets splashed right up into the alternator...and will kill it...get one!

As I was replacing the pan on my '87, I took a look at all the stuff it shields from the random debris common on the roads around here. I'd say that driving without a belly pan is asking for an expensive lesson in the penny wise and pound foolish school of life.

got the belly pan in last week for my 1980 GL. Fits nicely on the front and side, rear indeed needs adjustment. So far it's solid and makes the car look less "bare". Best thing is that steering is not protected from all the junk on the Freeways around L.A.

Fits well by and large on '87 240DL, the holes on the left side are about 1/32" off so you have to push the plastic to make sure the bolts go through vertical.
The pan does take 6 bolts though, not 5. One bolt on the right side of the frame.
Thanks!
