Sport Exhaust for non-turbo models

im thinking about buying this exhaust system but eliminating the cat and having a straight pipe to this catback and would imagine it to sound awesome

I bought the sport exhaust about 5 years ago in 2004 while stationed in Germany for $170.10. It was very easy to install and provided a little more pick-up to drive on the autobahn. I have experienced an excessive amount of rust around the clamps and the muffler recently fell off. I just ordered another one but currently the sport exhaust is on back order. I can not go back to the original muffler system risk the degradation of performance. However, I'm a little disappointed, I thought it would have lasted another 2-3 years but only 5 years and some change.

This was an excellent addition to the car. Hardest part was breaking loose all the old
rusted junk that was the existing system. Once I got all the old stuff out, ( a 2lb.
sledge helps!) it took less than an hour to install the new system. Everything fit
perfect. Leave it loose then adjust and tighten. Nice sounds and seems to have a little
more power. My only issue was one of the hanger brackets was bent....most likely in
shipping. But a pair of big channel locks and just like new.

Now if they would just change the "S" bend coming out of the muffler to a straight
shot with a nice clean tip.........hmmmmmm

I had looked at this exhaust for a while, and wanted to buy it for over a year. I finally got one and I was expecting this exhaust to be a little bit louder than it is. I realized after driving with it today, iPd really hit the nail on the head with the sound level, it is just about perfect, not too loud, but has a nice tone to it. The improvement in flow was amazing, it really helped my 244 while cruising on the highway, the car runs so smoothly while cruising and the increased flow feels great at higher speeds. It woke my 244 up and added a slight performance increase that I can feel. Assembly was easy, just follow the instructions and use a few wrenches to tighten up the clamps. I think that this is one of the best improvements I have made the car.

I have this exhaust on my 83 GL. It is not loud at all. I like that it has less back
pressure then the stock system. When I take my foot off of the gas I can feel the car
coast without the feeling that it is slowing down. I highly recommend it over the stock
system.

Installed this system about a year ago and I like the increase in the flow and the look as well. Good fitment and easily installed. I painted my entire system with a high temp high gloss silver paint to give it a bit more shine. Sound is definitely more like a stock 240 turbo sound with the deleted primary muffler...refined, yet it can actually be heard when you get on it. My only issue is that I wish it was a tad bit louder actually. Maybe a redesign of all 2.5 inch stainless steel with a straight-thru muffler would yield a few more growly decibels to be more to my liking. The car is now 25 years old so there's no longer a restriction for emissions, so a cat-delete pipe along with larger diameter piping entirely front to back is the near future. All in all...a good product for a factory replacement (for around the same price mind you), a few horse gain, and clean sound for a ticket-free brick.

Just got an entire exhaust system replacement with this and it is excellent. Throaty but not loud. The exhaust pipe comes out from the bumper at about a 45 degree angle and not straight like the original. I plan on cutting the end off and welding on a stainless steel dual up-swept tip. Hopefully I can make it look straight but it may not matter overall.

Ken sold me this system along with a CAT for my 91 244 about five or six years ago and i am VERY happy with it!!It DOES give that increase in power as advertised.However if you REALLY want to take advantage of the increased power,do as i did and take Ken's advice about installing the in tank pre pump sending unit from the 740 turbo.When the engine makes more power it needs more fuel.Installing that Pre pump made a HUGE difference.Now instead of my car just revving up and EVENTUALLY going faster.IT MOVES!

Sounds great IPD thank you for making this kit easy to install in about a hour with simple hand tools . with a new ipd headpipe and this kit it's like a new car! 88' 245DL

Installed this a year ago to replace what fell off on the way to work. Has a deeper but very bearable tone to it. The added responsiveness is a welcome improvement as well.
