Air Conditioning Compressor Bypass Kit On 1978 to 1984 240 models with air conditioning, the power steering pump is driven off of the air conditioning compressor. As it can cost $600 to $800 to repair a non-functioning system and convert it to the new R-134 coolant, many owners have opted to do without AC. If the compressor clutch fails, it can be very expensive to repair just to regain the use of the power steering. Our bypass kit consists of a machined aluminum spacer that relocates the power steering pulley so that it can accept a belt directly from the front of the crank shaft. A new, longer belt and longer pulley bolts are included. Belt adjustment is the same as with the original routing. An easy-to-install solution to a common problem.
Not sure about your model year? A key determining factor is whether your power steering pump has 4 bolts holding the pulley on. If it does not, our kit will not work. Please check fitment listed below to ensure products will fit your specific vehicle. Some products may include or exclude some model years or engine and transmission combinations. The products listed on our website are for Volvos sold in the North American market. Many of the parts are exactly the same as those used in other markets, however we cannot guarantee fitment for those markets.
